I absolutely love the Fall. It is one of my favorite times of year. Cooler mornings, smelling cinnamon, making applesauce…just a great time. Part of my enjoyment comes from my Fall garden. While similar to my Spring garden, planting in the Autumn just kind of invigorates me. After the long, humid, hot summer days, the cooler temperatures are a blessed relief. And as much as I love my summer crops of tomatoes, squash and corn – I’m glad to see kale, lettuce and cabbage growing in my garden. I picked the first round of lettuce and kale this weekend and am so excited! I love salad. Even my husband loves salad when made from fresh greens. Of course, I have to keep him happy and make a chef salad complete with meat, boiled eggs and all the trimmings. All those leafy greens, sprouting up are a joy to watch. All the lettuces – buttercrunch, iceberg leaf, red sails, salanova, little gems, green towers – and kales – white and red Russian, Lacinato, scarlet curly, green curly – in addition to the bok choi, pak choi, spinach, beet greens, arugula and rainbow chard make my mouth water. Of course, I have a few new things – a Rosie Asian green and Malabar spinach. Lots of greens in my future and hopefully in yours, too! Here we grow again!
